She Said, He Said // J & S

How long have you been dating and/or married?
She SaidWe've been together seven years this January, and married a year and 3 months-ish.
He Said6.5 years together: 1.5 years married

What did you think of each other when you first met? Was it love at first sight?
She Said
I met Jon at church, and when I first met him he and his dad were holding the doors open for everyone -- I thought he was kind and sweet but I didn't fall in love with him until later...
He SaidI thought she was the most amazing girl I had ever laid eyes on. And yes… it was love at first sight

What have you learned from your relationship?
She Said
Honestly, way too much to say. We started dating when we were 16, so we've grown up together and learned so much through that. But I would say the most significant thing is that we learned what the meaning of commitment was and how to truly love/commit to someone.
He SaidHow to truly love someone. How to be a better person. How to be productive. I've learned that I need encouragement and that Savannah is the most amazing cheerleader in the world. I've learned that we compliment each other so perfectly and that there is nothing we can't do as long as we stick together.

Who makes the decisions in your relationship?
She Said
We are both very equal, we like to discuss all major decisions and come to an agreement, but I do my best to respect his final say if he feels strongly about something. There are however aspects of our relationship where we "specialize" in and take leadership (budget, home cleaning etc..).
He SaidWe both make decisions depending on what it is and we both make sure to consult the other. However, when it comes down to it, I make the final call.

When did you know you had found "the one"?
She Said
Honestly we just clicked...our character, values and desires for life matched up and we wanted to take that journey together.
He Said I just knew.

What is the best advice you have to offer a new couple?
She Said
a) Don't get into a relationship unless you picture a possibility of marrying that person. (b) Be students of each other...learn about each other and the simple things they love, their quirks, what blesses them...etc. (c) Communicate!
He SaidMake sure you dedicate time to each other and you communicate. If you don't, conflict is sure to arise. Also, learn to see things from your partner's point of view; being able to understand how the other one thinks is helpful in making sure your significant other feels happy, respected, and loved.

What was your first date?
She Said
We didn't go on a "first date" for a long time...but on his birthday in high school I surprised him and we went out to Red Lobster, just him and I. :)
He SaidRed Lobster for my b-day lunch! It was a freaking amazing surprise.

He Said
